How to Always Get Paid in the Security Industry
When you’re working long hours and putting in the work you deserve to get paid; plain and simple. The sad fact of the matter however is that if you ask enough security professionals you are bound to hear all sorts of tales where people have had to fight tooth and nail to be paid what they’re owed. Take a read of our quick tips below and make sure you never miss out again!
Get it in writing
Whilst the security industry is more professional and heavily regulated than ever before, there are plenty of businesses and organisations out there who will still try and pay you cash in hand. With this often comes the expectation that you’ll do ‘the done thing’ and work with nothing but a verbal contract. The issue with these sorts of agreements is that they’re not legally binding and are virtually impossible to prove should a dispute arise. Play things safe and ask for everything in writing so that you can work with the peace of mind that you’ll get paid what you owe.
Find out about your future employer
If you’re being employed by a specific business then a quick Google search is often all it takes to ascertain whether they’re reputable or not. If you’re being paid by an umbrella company or third party then ask for everything in writing. You want to know what you’ll be paid, when you can expect it, and by what means. That way you’ll have something concrete you can refer back to if and when you need to.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions
If an employer is willing to let you supervise their premises and clientele then they should be more than willing to answer a couple of basic questions. If they seem in a hurry to get you to agree to something but can’t or won’t answer even the most basic of questions then alarm bells should start ringing. Take a step back from the situation, ask yourself why they’re acting like that, and if you don’t get the answers and reassurance you need simply walk away. There will always be another opening and a better opportunity around the corner.
